The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has started a review of combined hormonal contraceptives containing chlormadinone, desogestrel, dienogest, drospirenone, etonogestrel, gestodene, nomegestrol, norelgestromin or norgestimate. The review was requested by the French medicines agency ANSM following concerns in France about the risk of venous thromboembolism. EMA has also started a new review of Diane 35 and other medicines containing cyproterone acetate 2 mg and ethinylestradiol 35 micrograms, following the decision by the French medicines regulatory agency (ANSM) to suspend Diane 35 and its generics in France within three months.
