The role of testosterone in the development of dementia in elderly men remains uncertain. Within the population-based prospective cohort Three-City (3C) study, low levels of plasma testosterone were associated with a greater risk for dementia. This association was stronger among men at high risk for dementia (80 years or older, high level of education). These findings suggest that the progressive decline in testosterone levels with age could play a role in the pathogenesis of dementia in elderly men. These data have been pulished in Alzheimers Dement.
